SCSU - Something of Interest to Me
Something very interesting in my life lately is the Southern Connecticut State University Hickerson Hall Council. It is the student council board in my dormitory. I joined a couple weeks ago and have been having a great time! We meet once a week - every Tuesday at 9:30p.m. - and discuss current events within the hall and new ideas. I am excited because I really feel like we are really making a difference and good changes for our hall and its residents. We recently passed a motion to buy about 50 or so new movies for residents that can be checked out at the front desk and taken back to your room to watch. We also got a lot of new games and new equipment for the games in the basement, including pool sticks, ping pong balls and paddles, and foos ball balls. The meetings are not only fun, but they are literally rewarding, not only because you get all of these new things for your hall, but also because the top fourty hall residents with the best attendence get a free pair of Hickerson Hall sweatpants at the end of the semester! I encourage not only Hickerson Hall residents, but all hall residents to get involved in their hall council. They want to hear your ideas and address your concerns, it is an opportunity to voice your opinion. So speak now or forever hold your peace! Hall council also does not just sit and hold meetings every week, they hold socials and events with free food! They are also all great opportunities to meet new people! It is also an opportunity not only to get involved with your hall, but become closer with your floor and bring everyone you live with together. At the weekly meetings, the Community Coordinator's on each floor get the chance to request money to put to use for a floor social. So if you have any ideas as to what you may want to do with your floor, let your CC know and you can work together on coming up with a good day/time and budget to request at the next hall council meeting.
